Chautauqua Project

A California Coastal Home Remembered

Our clients lost this home in the Palisades Fire.
And in many ways, we lost it too.

This Pacific Palisades home was one of our most treasured California coastal projects, created alongside clients who became deeply meaningful to us over the years. We continue to keep this home in our portfolio because we believe it deserves to live on, if only through these images and the memories they hold.

Every detail throughout the home was intentionally considered. Each material carried meaning, while every color, texture, and sourced piece contributed to a larger story about the family who lived there. Together with our clients, we shaped a home that felt distinctly rooted in California coastal living while allowing each space to express its own personality and rhythm.

The formal living room gave way to a great room layered in casual elegance and designed for connection. The pool house carried a retro-inspired spirit, while the game room introduced a more modern edge anchored by a wall of records painted entirely white. Outside, the property embraced California indoor-outdoor living at its finest, complete with a pizza oven, fire pit, pool, and gathering spaces designed for ease and togetherness.

The children’s rooms reflected imagination and individuality in deeply personal ways — one wallpapered to feel like a journey to the moon, the other immersed in a tropical escape. Throughout the home, moments like these brought warmth, joy, and personality into every corner of the design.

This was the third home we designed together with these clients. At the time of the fire, we were in the midst of renovating their primary bathroom when everything changed. Thankfully, they found safety and refuge.

As personal and meaningful as interior design can be, one of its greatest qualities is how it carries memory forward. Creativity, beauty, and the stories attached to a home have a way of finding new forms long after the walls themselves are gone.
